Impeach the Bastard

I am no fool. I am well aware that getting rid of Trump will not get rid of the system and culture that put him into office.

That said, if we can stonewall the bastard in any way, I say do it. An impeachment proceeding would be an almost insurmountable inconvenience.

For people like Nancy Pelosi to discourage impeachment because of a fear of what might happen is the epitome of cognitive dissonance. To impeach Trump would mean challenging the world view that the opposition can be negotiated and worked with. This has not been the case in American politics since the era of Johnson and it never will be the case for our system again.

Whether you are a socialist like me, a dedicated pro Pelosi liberal, a centrist who wants everyone to stop yelling, or a republican paving the way for Trump’s fascism, it cannot be denied that American politics is polarized.

To not do anything because of a lack of bipartisan support is what a comedian would call a “failure to read the room.” The truth is that nothing, I repeat NOTHING, will ever have bipartisan support again until Donald Trump is no longer the president. So long as the president is polarizing, so shall politics of the nation be.

Hell, even vaccines and healthcare are a hot issue. One can’t even pass a bill saying “you need to give your kids their shots,” without some kind of a public temper tantrum. To expect anything like that to not happen when confronting a literal fascist president is moronic.

Either Nancy Pelosi is out of touch with the real world, or she doesn’t want to do anything that might affect her place of power. It is probably a combination of both.

The point is if we have a chance to get rid of the fascist son of a bitch, if we have the chance to distract his white supremacist presidency from passing policy, if we can put them on the defensive instead of the offensive, why the fuck shouldn’t we!?

Like I said, I know impeachment will not magically make the country less sexist or racist, but it will put a damper on a racist, sexist oligarch’s plans to destroy our planet. That may not be the answer to all our problems, but for fuck sakes! It is better than doing nothing!

The Professional Protester Episode 52 | The Mueller Report Flops

Since it is the talk of the town I would be remiss if I didn’t make another, and hopefully my last, video about Russiagate. To sum it up, I want liberals to realize:

1. All the time spent watching speculative news stories was time that should have been used for organizing.

&

2. No matter what happens, this report won’t give us healthcare, it won’t jail killer cops, it won’t bring justice to people like Stephon Clark’s family, and it won’t solve the student debt crisis.

Okay, can we move on yet please? Thanks.

Russiagate Does Nothing To Solve Our Actual Problems

Before I say anything else, let me just say that I do indeed believe there was some form of collusion between Trump’s campaign and the Russian government that had influence on the 2016 election. I am however not a conspiracy theorist nor a liberal apologist, so I do not think that this collusion changes the fact that Trump’s victory and the victory of all fascists is born out of institutionalized racism, institutionalized patriarchy, and economic disparity.

Even though they have found more conclusive evidence that there was some kind of direct collusion, I really just don’t care and can’t ever care about Russiagate the way that so many loyalists to the Democratic Party do.

I am not saying that the FBI should stop the investigation, au contraire. I believe that anything that inconviences the Trump administration is well worth the time. However I am not dependant on a racist organization like the FBI to be the one to oust what is arguably the most publicly racist president since Nixon. No matter what the FBI does to inconvenience Trump, it will never change the fact that the FBI was born out of prohibition laws that were racist and disproportionally enforced against Italian immigrants. Nor can anything make up for the blacklisting of freedom fighters like Nelson Mandela or Martin Luther King Jr.

I also think that the interference in our election is a bit of the U.S. getting a taste of our own medicine. If you do not like a competitive superpower interfering in the affairs of your state, then I can introduce you to some people from Egypt, Chile, Libya, El Salvador, and Honduras who would agree with you. Any conversation about democracy and foreign interference in elections that does not include a conversation about Salvador Allende is another tedious case of American acceptionalism.

No, my lack of interest in the Russiagate fiasco is as such; even if Robert Mueller develops a rock solid case, even if the House moves to impeach Trump, even if Pence decides not to pull a President Ford and not pardon Trump, none of these things will end the problems the nation and world faces that gave us Trump.

There is a harsh reality that Russia obsessed liberals need to face, that even if the investigation is a success in ousting Trump, it will not be the end of Trumpism. Trump has opened the Pandora’s box that has always been subtly hidden by the right wing. We can expect the unsubtle racism and sexism of Trump from every Republican candidate in the forseeable future. We can expect to see more reactionary populist rhetoric from future candidates. We can expect to see more inexperienced billionaires running for president. The sad truth is that the fascist wing of conservatism is the new normal for conservatives, and Trump resigning or being jailed will not end that. The foundation for this was laid down by his Republican predecessors, but Trump built his tower on it and until the right wing is eradicated it is here to stay long after he goes.

I must also point out that Trump falling because of Russiagate does nothing to solve the problems our country, and for that matter the world, faces. Will Trump’s impeachment attack the corporations responsible for our climate crisis? Will Trump resigning finally give the overdue reparations to our Indegenous and black comrades? Will Trump doing time end queerphobia or sexism? Will it protect sex workers? Will it stop police brutality? Will give us the healthcare we need to survive? Will it insure employment for the struggling masses of my gaslit generation?

The answer to all of those questions is a simple and straightforward, no. Now do not misunderstand me, I am not against the Russia investigation nor am I against the idea of this man doing time. I do however feel that people who think that Trump’s fall will be the end of the hatred he has unleashed, that his fall marks the end of all our nation’s woes, are being delusional.

Let the FBI focus on Trump, to whatever it may avail. Let the rest of us focus on ending the climate crisis, let us build a community where police stop slaughtering black people and detaining brown children. Let us get healthcare to every living being. Let us stop the everlasting genocide of the indeginous. Let us organize and defend sex workers, trans people, and women’s health. These are issues that can not be solved by simply blaming Trump and Russia.

Kim Kardashian and the Lowest Common Denominator

Trump is the byproduct of all our willful apathy and blissful ignorance under the neoliberal life we have been leading since the time of Reagan. Kim Kardashian coming to the White House to discuss prison reform is a massive embarrassment, this is very true.

However, I honestly hope no one was surprised by this. Of course Trump invites the famous self objectifying illiterate to discuss a major political issue instead of someone more qualified, such as literally anyone else. What we forget though is that we created both of these monsters.

We created Trump by not taking anything he said or did seriously until we realized 46% of the country actually voted for him. We created the Kardashian / Jenner enterprise the same way. We let them exist and swallowed their representation, mostly out of that diluted sense of “irony” that made us watch Jersey Shore or whatever else MTV shat out in the late 2000s. My point is this, by letting them exist in our world, by letting their followers continually validate them, we are guilty of enabling this white nationalist, tasteless trash of a presidency.

Trump and Kim are both symptoms of the system of capitalism. Both exist and succeeded because we consumed their work, either we did it “ironically” or we allowed their actual fans to validate them without realizing the repercussions of allowing it.

By letting Trump and Kim have their shows, their products, even if we choose to ignore them, we allowed them to grow, to exist.

So it should not come as a surprise that two people who are famous merely for existing in our media would be treated to the perks of societal influence. I’m not shocked or enraged that either one gets to sit in the White House, I am simply annoyed that we let these fucking idiots exist and receive validation to the point anyone would ever trust their opinions on anything. There is nothing cool or ironic or edgy about following or dissing either the Kardashians or Trumps anymore considering how saturated our society is to their influence.

Sorry to spoil the fun, but they aren’t just annoying pigments of the media anymore. They are threats to the structure of our society. One is a white nationalist who is infiltrating our federal courts and agencies with people supportive of his imperialist agenda, the other is someone with no knowledge or authority on anything who is constantly validated for some reason as a source of knowledge and authority, on what I do not know but when you have 20 million twitter and instagram followers people listen to you even if they do not know what the fuck you are talking about.

To hell with them both. Revolution is the key to finally dimming the spotlight we have kept on both these idiots for too long. End the stupidity, take the fact these people exist seriously, and get rid of them.
